I can actually recall my Mother using the wash board and when she got her first big white modern wringer wash. She was so happy about how much easier it was to do the wash, although we still had to haul the water in and heat it up on the stove, no changing the water , just adding more hot water into it as the wash went along .White went first of course . It took most of the day to do it and in the winter Mom's hands would be bright red from the cold. Gloves didn't work so well with the clothespins I guess!I think this image would be great for an elderly Mother/Aunt who might have some memories of them , but for my purposes it will be a 'get well' card for someone who isn't feeling up to par!

Such a gorgeous card Glenda, love the image and great colours.xxx
ReplyDeleteI love this image and already have plans to use it. Love the story that went along with your picture too. This will cheer someone up that is not feeling well. Great job.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a story. It really makes us appreciate the modern conveniences we have today. Today is laundry day for me, and I usually complain about it, but I won't today.
ReplyDeleteFabulous and fun vintage card!
Oh Glenda, I remember the wringer washer we had, too, and hanging the clothes outside or in (if the was rainy or snowy)! If it was really cold out, the clothes would turn stiff as a board... Loved your story! Fortunately, we didn't have to haul in the water -- thank goodness for electricity!
ReplyDeleteYou made such a gorgeous, vintage card for this spectacular vintage set! I love everything about it. Wonderful embellishments, papers and, of course, your awesome coloring!!
Incredible card, Glenda! Love the design and the muted colors. I, too, remember wringer washers but have only seen washboards in the antique stores. We used to visit my grandfather's cabin in the mountains every summer and we used the wringer washer that was there. I know my mother was always happy to get home at the end of summer to her "modern" washer. We didn't have a dryer, so hanging out clothes is a chore I remember well, too. :-D
ReplyDeleteThat is a great "feel better" card Glenda. I remember seeing a washboard but I think it sat in the corner at my Grandma's place. By the time I was old enough to have a memory Grandpa had bought her one of the wringer tubs. Ah, memories! NancyD
ReplyDeleteGlenda, what a wonderful card and memories of your mother and childhood. I don;t quite remember doing wash this way but I do remember the wringer washing machines. I just love the earthy tones of your card. And your embellishments are perfect. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteThis is WONDERFUL! I liked it as well and I've done one with this image to post in a few more days. I love your interpretation!
ReplyDeleteYour card is fabulous and great papers too. And wow! What a story. I think I would have worn the same clothes until they fell off!
ReplyDeleteFantastic card Glenda, love the image and beautiful detail.

Oh happy memories your card brings back Glenda! What a lovely vintage feel it has! My father to the day he died had creases on his fingernails from getting his fingers trapped in the wringer when he was a child. And do you remember dolly blue? The little muslin bag of blue dye added to the whites to keep them white? Happy days but thank goodness for my automatic washer and tumble dryer lol! Hugs Susan x
ReplyDeleteFabulous.....a real trip down memory lane....thank goodness for automatic washers!
